A BUSKER asked the community if he had 'outstayed his welcome' after a market worker asked him how long he had left to play.

Before the pandemic, guitarist Peter Buckley played in front of packed venues in London but since then the musician has taken to playing outside Ulverston Market Hall on some Thursday and Saturday mornings.

Peter said that the worker told him 'people' were complaining about his music so he took to social media to gauge opinions.

He received over a hundred comments praising him and his music and asking him to play on.

Peter plays a mixture of classic rock and Britpop covers from artists ranging from Bruce Springsteen, to Oasis to The Eagles.

He said: "It was the first time I've ever heard of anyone complaining about my music so it really surprised me to hear it.

"I've gotten quite hard-nosed as a musician over the years playing on different levels from pubs to venues to festivals so it didn't impact me that much but I am very glad it wasn't a young person or a musician without that much time or experience under their belt.

"I employ a number of tactics to stay mindful/respectful when playing in Ulverston. The main thing I do is I don't use an amplifier of any kind - just an acoustic guitar and my vocals."

He also said that he does not busk on Saturdays and stops at 9pm at the latest but usually before 8pm. He chooses a different busking spot in the morning and the evenings and tries his best not to repeat any songs within a two-hour set.

He also said that he plays popular covers so that people will know at least every two or three songs.

He even thinks about what gauge of string to use on his guitar. Peter opts for medium gauge strings so that the sound is not too harsh when he strums.

Other than the Market Hall, Peter also performs outside Tesco Express on Market Street on some afternoons.

He will also return to gigging by playing at the Hope and Anchor at 9pm on May 18.
