AN INVESTIGATION is underway after a spate of vandalism saw cars targeted.

Police are investigating after CCTV footage showed a man and woman arguing and causing damage on Albert Street in Dalton

The incident is suspected to have taken place around midnight on April 6, according to Dalton Community Action Group.

An email sent to the police by the group said: "A man and a woman were seen arguing, shouting and screaming at each other which resulted in a streak of vandalism. Causing damage to many of the cars through Albert Street and Tudor Square car park.

"A number of cars have been damaged. Slamming, banging etc was heard while they were arguing. Many of the cars now (have) scratches as part of their paintwork.

"A resident living on Albert Street has informed DCAG that cars getting scratched seems to be a common issue in that area.

"We are hoping someone comes forward and helps identify the individuals responsible."

The incident was logged by the police on April 7.

Cumbria Police said inquiries are still ongoing and 'the damages recorded have all been to wing mirrors and there have been four that have been kicked off or damaged.'

Dalton North councillor Ben Shirley said: "Please report any anti-social behaviour that has taken place in our community. The more people that report it, it strengthens our hand as local leaders to have a greater police presence in our town.

"We now have a full-time community beat officer in Dalton. Extra street lighting and CCTV also deters crime in our main areas, our people will not feel safe or at risk.

"These two measures will help to deter crime along with an increased police presence.

"We are lucky to live in a community where we have relatively low levels of crime. Any anti-social behaviour it is important that people report any examples to the police."
