THE Millom Network Centre has seen all of its hard work come to fruition at a newly opened Community Food Shop.

The shop, which will be offering food at affordable prices to the Millom community, is based at Unit three on the Devonshire Industrial Estate on Devonshire Road.

Following the reluctant closure of the Community Food Pantry due to lack of availability of food supplies from Preston Foodshare, it was still apparent that there was still a great need for affordable food within Millom.

CEO Angela Dixon and trustee board member Sarah Sharpe got their heads together to work on the idea of a Community Food Shop to offer food at affordable prices.

Sarah was tasked with securing funding and once this was in place it was all systems go. A room which was formerly an office space rented out for meetings underwent a transformation.

Sue Dust, office manager at Millom Network Centre, said: “This was made possible by not just Angela and Sarah but a willing band of volunteers who took up paint brushes, built shelves and so much more.”

The shop will be funded by a £5 membership fee to be paid yearly. This fee will help to ensure that the shop can remain funded.

Sue said: “We were all bowled over by the level of support that was shown and the number of customers through the door.

“Most people were more than happy to become a member as it was their way of giving back and supporting a community project.

“We look forward to helping people to save money and once again help to build a stronger community for our town.”
