Barrow MP's Simon Fell has been blasted for his comments on the junior doctor strikes.

Members of the British Medical Association and Hospital Consultants and Specialists Association appear to be at a stalemate with The Government after Downing Street insisted there will be no talks unless junior doctors abandon a 35 per cent pay rise and call off the strikes.

Mr Fell called the strikes, which began on Tuesday, 'deeply disappointing'.

R Andy Blythe said: “MP’s earn more than a junior doctor and have the cheek to claim back on expenses. MP’s don't save lives but cost them.”

Charlie Dowthwaite said: “What is disappointing here is Simon Fell's attack upon the junior doctors as well as his party’s policies which attacks the NHS and ignores the housing crisis. They are striking for a very good reason and they must be supported by us all, I for one stand in solidarity with them... The more strikes that take place the more workers can win their case for a decent pay offer.”

Paul Griffiths  said: “Maybe a comparison of Simon’s salary with a junior doctors salary would be good to do a feature on. I find it bizarre that anyone, MP or otherwise, earning at least double the wage of a junior doctor, would openly criticize them for wanting £19 an hour!”

Shaun Blezard said: “I read somewhere today that MPs are on £42 an hour plus expenses. Quite a bit more than junior doctors then. MPs are not really known for having much self-awareness.”

Nicola Smith said: “The only risks patients are in is purely down to the government’s blinkered mission to privatize healthcare.”

Lee Wicks said: “£14 an hour for saving lives. Seriously?”

Mo Rammy said: “Of course he's going to blast them because majority are from ethnic backgrounds. What has he done that has been good or great for the constituency? He's creaming and lining his pockets just like the rest of the Barrow Borough Council. In it for themselves full stop.”

Rachelle Poyntz said: “Worth every penny, and more, than they ask for. How can anyone begrudge a decent salary to people who are saving lives! Unbelievable!”
