THE Labour candidate to fight the next general election in the Barrow and Furness constituency has been selected.

Michelle Scrogham said she was 'humbled and extremely proud' and that it was an 'honour' to have been chosen. 

Ms Scrogham, who is currently the mayor of Ulverston, won the majority of votes cast following a hustings and a vote among local Labour Party members.

“Once again, it will fall to Labour to rebuild the country from the ruins left by the Tories," she said.

"Only Labour has a plan to help people through the cost-of-living crisis, tackle NHS waiting lists and ensure people feel safe on our streets."

Ms Scrogham was up against Erica Lewis and Chris Altree.
