Inspiring Barrow's celebration evening was an emotional night with lots of well-deserved awards.

Children and their families gathered at The Forum Theatre for the Inspiring Barrow Kickstart programme awards after taking part in the popular after-school programme designed to raise aspirations and life skills.

Children from six Secondary schools gathered for their celebration evening.

Year 8 children arrived from Walney, Furness Academy, St Bernard’s Catholic High School, Chetwynde, Dowdales and Ulverston Victoria High School.

The students spent 10 weeks working hard on developing life skills such as communication, teamwork and leadership.

During the programme the pupils created a poster campaign with a common theme of positive connections that was launched on the evening.

The original posters will be produced and distributed by Oxley Development LTD with the support of Jayne Moorby, the company's marketing director, who also sits on the Inspiring Barrow steering group.

Cumbria Constabulary was present on the evening to praise the children for their campaign.

Community Officer Sgt John Dilks explained the importance of their work to the audience and told the children that their posters would be used on the police website.

Additionally, the posters will go up around town in schools and colleges, partner youth hubs, Furness General Hospital and doctor surgeries.

All the children on the programme received certificates for completing the programme which were presented by Deputy Mayor Cllr Therese Assouad.

Commander Philip Burns acted as Guest Speaker and presented Special Awards to the children.

One of the most emotional moments of the evening was when Ulverston Victoria High School student Anhelina, who is here with her mother from Ukraine, received a special award for International Leadership.
