AN OSPREY which has made its home in Cumbria for several summers has returned - but without its usual breeding parnter.
For years male osprey White YW and his mate Blue 35 have settled in their nest at Foulshaw Moss Nature Reserve near Grange for the summer months.
The nest is on land operated by Cumbria Wildlife Trust. The trust has set up a webcam that provides a live feed of the birds of prey.
Viewers have been guessing when the birds would return. In the end, White YW finally got back from his trip abroad on March 27 at 7.40 pm.
However there is no sign of his usual mate Blue 35. Instead he returned home with another unringed female.
White YW was born in 2008 at Bassenthwaite Lake, Keswick. He is known by his leg identification ring and was one of three chicks that fledged the nest.
