TWO brothers are reopening a fish and chip shop.

Cem Oktem and his brother are taking on Priory Place Fish and Chip shop in Ulverston. It will be opening to the public in April.

Cem said: "We have been in the industry now for 15 years having taken over Packet Bridge Fish and Chips in Bolton Le Sands in February 2008 and opened our second site Westgate Fish & Chips in Morecambe in November 2019.

"I have been a trainer at the National Federation of Fish Friers (NFFF) training school since 2017 and helped with the training when Priory Plaice first opened. I was also the assessor when Priory Plaice gained the NFFF Quality Award assessment.

"We will be setting up new website and social media pages and will update you all when they are both live.

"We are starting our recruitment now so anybody looking for part time or full time work at the shop, please forward a CV to my email address - cem_oktem@hotmail.co.uk"

The business, on Priory Road, had its last day of service on Saturday, December 17.

Last year in April, Priory Plaice was listed in Fry Magazine as one of the top 50 fish and chip takeaways in the UK.

In a statement announcing its closure last year, Priory Plaice Fish and Chips bosses said: "It is with great sadness that we announce we will not be renewing our lease. Therefore our last day of service will be Saturday December 17.

"Significant increases in rent, energy bills, and ongoing inflationary costs on our products have all contributed to this difficult decision.

"We would like to say a massive thank you for your custom and loyalty over this time.”

The last year has been difficult for fish and chip shops due to the war in Ukraine.

Ukraine and Russia were the two biggest producers of sunflower oil, with 75 per cent of the world's supply coming from them before the invasion of Ukraine.

Russia also produced nearly half of the world's white fish. The increased competition between other countries contributed to the increase in prices.
