DALTON Castle is opening on April 1 with a special event.
David Cross from the George Romney Society will be giving a presentation on the famous portrait artist who was born in Dalton.
The society will also be displaying some original paintings for one day only, some of which have rarely been seen in public before.
George Romney was born in 1734 and died in 1802. He painted many society figures of his time such as his artistic muse Emma Hamilton who was the mistress of Lord Nelson.
He was born in Beckside in Dalton, and raised in a cottage named High Cocken. The cottage is now named Romney Cottage and still exists as a Grade II listed property in Barrow.
His art work is on display in Abbot Hall Art Gallery, Kendal Town Hall, Ashmolean Museum in Oxford, Courtauld Institute of Art in London and the Tate Gallery.
The event is free to attend and starts at 1pm.
