THE parents of Britain's largest family made a special road trip back to the South Cumbrian town where they tied the knot to mark 30 years of marriage.

In the latest series of Channel 5's 22 Kids & Counting, Sue and Noel Radford travelled up from Morecambe to Kendal to visit their old wedding venue and other landmarks significant to their relationship.

In the first stop-off on the trip down memory lane the couple visited Kendal Parish Church which is where they wed in the 1990s when Sue was 17 and Noel in his early 20s.

During the episode, the pair look back at old wedding footage and reminisce on the difficulties of being young parents.

Noel and Sue later stopped by their reception venue: Romney’s where they meet up with Sue’s brother Steve.

They recollect on Noel being helped back into his room – accommodation at Romney’s - after enjoying one too many at the reception.

The parents also visited the first humble house on Echo Barn Hill in Kirkbarrow where they lived after marrying in 1991.

“I think we did have a few reservations about living here when we were younger… mainly because we did hear a few horror stories about this road in particular,” remarked Sue.

The couple later stopped by their old pie shop in Kendal high street - a site which the pair once leased to try and expand their pie business.

The pair had invested in the then-prime location for their bakery in 2001 after seeing another shop flourish when they opened up a second site.

The parents explained that at the time they were 'so proud' to have their own business in Heysham, Lancashire and 'wanted to expand'.

They took out a 'huge' loan to invest in their thriving dream - only to be slammed with national disaster.

“To start with it did really well,' Noel explained. “It was doing good - and then not long here - foot-and-mouth hits the country and to be honest I think Cumbria was one of the worst affected areas.”

“I can’t even describe it, it just caused so much stress,” Sue revealed. “You used to go to bed thinking about the debt, you'd wake up thinking about the debt, you'd wake up during the night thinking about the debt.

“If anything was going to have caused us to get a divorce, it was this.”
