A POPULAR Italian café and coffee bar has had a 'successful' reopening.

The owners of Brizzolaris in Market Street, Dalton, closed the business for a month to renovate its premises, extend offer seats and create a new menu.

Emma-lea Dalton, director and owner of Brizzolaris, said people 'loved' the renovations.

She said: "Our first week back has been really good. It has been really nice hearing lovely comments.

"We tried to go for an Italian renaissance theme so it is quite dark and moody. We have got quite a fresh entrance with a pale pink and it goes through to the back dining area it is all dark.

"Everybody likes the mixtures of the old and new together."

Brizzolaris offers a breakfast menu from 9:30am until 11:30am and a lunch menu from 11:30am to 2:30pm alongside the tapas menu.

The owner said: "Favourites of the menu are the arancini, the soups and the coffee goes down a treat.

"We have a proper Italian coffee supplied by Penningtons in Kendal so we kept that local. Everyone loves the coffee, they say it is one of the best in the area.

"We try to do a lot of vegan and vegetarian foods as well because in the area it can be quite hard to find sometimes.

"A lot of our menu options can be swapped out for gluten-free so we tried to instead of just offering a couple of gluten-free options do it across the board so that the majority of the menu can be made gluten-free as well.

Emma hopes to do pop-up nights in the future, such as a Mediterranean tapas pop-up or a pasta night.

Opened in 1908 by Concetta and Angelo Brizzolari, Brizzolaris was originally an ice cream parlour.

In 2018, after 110 years and two generations later, their granddaughter Hazel and her husband Keith decided that they wanted to retire.

The iconic shop was closed and sold to Emma-Lea Dalton, who originally wanted to use the building as office space for her cleaning company 'My Kind of Clean'.

But Emma, who is born and raised in Dalton, understood the history of the building and how important the building was to the community.

She then decided to restore the building and honour its heritage.

Brizzolaris is open from Monday to Saturday from 9:30 am until 4pm.
