Escape from Fort Lagoon at Barrow Park

Escape from Fort Lagoon is a live action theatrical game reminiscent of the popular television series The Crystal Maze where players become prisoners and work together to try and escape the lagoon.

Based in Barrow Park, groups of up to eight will find clues spread across Barrow park to unlock each stage of this outdoor adventure.

The game has an educational theme as it is set in the future, where water sources have exceeded the PH level safe for human consumption and as a result have become a rare commodity.

Through a series of theatrical encounters, a downloadable app and activities, friends and families will work together to ‘survive’ and flee to sanctuary at the pool in Barrow Park Leisure Centre on Saturday and Sunday, June 17-18, 2023.

The experience is provided by Manchester-based Wake the Beast and Submersion Productions, supported by BarrowFull - a Barrow arts organisation who work with artists and community members across town.

Barrowful director Daniel Tyler-McTigue explains why they chose Escape from Fort Lagoon for Barrow Park. He said: “We are often being asked for things for families to do with teenagers and young adults - there’s quite a lot of activities for young children to do in the area but this is something that parents can do with their teenagers, or that groups of adult friends can do together. It’s something really different and we know that people in Barrow are up for trying new things and having fun."

Participants will need to bring swimwear and a towel as part of the adventure is inside Barrow Leisure Centre, though options are available for non-swimmers.

The experience lasts two hours and players form groups of up to eight people. Tickets are £12 plus a booking fee, with a percentage of the booking fee going to Water Aid.
