A FURNESS MP is hoping for ‘closure’ for the community after the sentencing of Eleanor Williams.

Eleanor Williams, 22, of Teasdale Road, Walney, was found guilty of eight counts of perverting the course of justice following a trial which concluded in January having previously admitted one count.

She has since been sentenced to eight-and-a-half years in prison.

Williams’ charges came after she accused multiple men, over a period of three years, of raping and trafficking her.

The allegations made by William’s then resulted in a large-scale police investigation into crimes including human trafficking and child sex offences.

These investigations resulted in men being arrested.

Barrow and Furness MP Simon Fell said that the case has been ‘horrific to see unfold’, and hopes that the sentencing of Eleanor Williams will have ‘closure’ for the community and for her victims.

Mr Fell said: “From beginning to end, this case has been horrific to see unfold. Barrow has been put through the wringer, and many people have had their lives turned upside down as a result.

“I hope that with this verdict the victims have the opportunity to turn the page on this tragic episode and get on with their lives, and that the community can find some closure.”
