A TALENTED craftswoman has fulfilled her dream of opening a jewellery workshop in the heart of Ulverston.

Amanda Kavanagh has envisaged opening her own jewellery shop since launching her business 16 years ago.

The mum decided to finally take the plunge after moving from Kent to Broughton in May last year for a change of pace in life.

“Down south, I could never have afforded a shop but moving up here I thought I can actually do this,” she said.

Amanda has always enjoyed arts and crafts which is what prompted her to launch a jewellery workshop business more than a decade ago.

She said: “I’ve always been into arts and crafts and making my own clothes and jewellery.

“When my daughter was little I did jewellery-making parties for her birthdays then I got asked to do other ones and it grew from there.”

After moving up north, she decided it was the right time to finally open her own workshop which hosts jewellery and dreamcatcher-making parties as well as selling handmade jewellery.

Two weeks ago Amanda opened Beadology in Theatre Street and has already welcomed dozens of children through her door for workshop events.

She said: “It’s been a really good reception from customers so far.

“We have a good following online – everybody has been really supportive.

“I love coming to work every day – I get really excited.”

At the workshops, which are offered to both adults and children, event-goers can make their own selection of necklaces, bracelets, earrings and dreamcatchers.

Amanda also hosts other workshops at her shop led by local craftswomen including crochet classes, and needle felting and hopes to attract others in the future.
