LETTERS have been sent to a number of residents of a Barrow street advising them of the types of property improvements that are to be on offer as part of a rejuvenation plan.

Rawlinson Street has been selected as a beneficiary of the Housing Renewal scheme – one of seven projects that make up the #BrilliantBarrow programme.

Cllr Derek Brook, the borough council's lead member for community, said the work on offer was varied in nature but included sustainability measures and improvements to the appearance of buildings.

"We want property owners to help feed into the proposals so the scheme can move even further forward and the potential of the Housing Renewal project can be realised," he said.

"The way people live has changed over the decades, so it’s important that we make sure the properties we have here in Barrow change with the times too.

“This programme is a one-off opportunity to invest in changes that will bring positives to our communities for years to come.”

Some residents and commercial property owners in Rawlinson Street have been invited to attend a meeting about the project in the Rydal Suite at The Forum theatre in Duke Street, Barrow, on Thursday, March 23.

The event, taking place at 7pm, will give people the opportunity to find out more, provide feedback and ask questions.

"This is an exciting project that has the potential to provide a wide range of benefits for the community," said Cllr Brook.

The #BrilliantBarrow programme, which began life in 2020 as a bid for money from the Government's Towns Fund, is using the £25m secured to back a variety of projects, including a university campus in Barrow and improvements to walking and cycling routes in the town.

"Barrow became one of the first towns in the country to secure the maximum possible grant," says the #BrilliantBarrow website.

"Work is under way to deliver each of the projects to ensure Barrow thrives as a great place to live, work and visit for generations to come."
