COFFEE-LOVERS were queuing up outside the newly-opened Starbucks in Ulverston to get their first sip of the world-famous hot beverages.

A new Starbucks Drive Thru store, operated by 23.5 Degrees, opened in the Beehive Business Park today, creating 20 new jobs.

The store was opened with an official ribbon-cutting ceremony alongside staff from St Mary’s Hospice – the charity Starbucks Ulverston has pledged to support.

The store has a contemporary design and offers customers the opportunity to enjoy a handcrafted cup of coffee and relax with the comfortable seating and free wi-fi.

Ursula and James Woodburn were among some of the first customers to take a look inside the newly-opened store.

The couple, who live in the Ulverston area, said: “We were doing our shopping and saw it was open so decided to pop in. They’ve done it out quite nicely. It’s definitely a lot more welcoming than the new McDonald’s.

“There’s a good atmosphere this morning. I think we’ll come back when we next come shopping.

“We’ve got a Greggs drive-thru, Starbucks and Costa so there’s a lot more options for people.”

Georgia and Lynn Gaulton had travelled from Lowton to Ulverston for a day out at South Lakes Safari Zoo and popped into the new Starbucks en route.

“It brings another dimension to the area,” they said.

“We didn’t know it was opening today and decided to take a look inside.

“It’s definitely what’s needed for the area – we come here a lot.”

A group of St Mary’s Hospice nurses also came down to support the opening.

“It’s lovely they’ve picked a local charity to support,” they said.

“Our staff will definitely be regular users. It’s a lovely place – they’ve done a great job.”

Barrow is also set to get its first Starbucks after a planning application was given the green light in November.

The drive-thru branch of the popular coffee chain is to be situated in the car park of Asda in Walney Road.
