TRIBUTES have been paid after a man died following an incident on the railway tracks.

There was major disruption on the rail network this morning (March 2) after emergency services responded to an incident at Askam.

British Transport Police confirmed that a man had died following an incident on the line to Askam this morning.

Officers were called to the line in Askam at 7.14am today following reports of a casualty on the tracks.

A spokesman for British Transport Police said: "Paramedics also attended however sadly a man was pronounced dead at the scene.

"Officers are working to establish the full circumstances behind their death."

Heartfelt tributes have been paid to the man following his tragic death.

Passengers were warned that journey times were extended by 90 minutes on replacement transport while the train line was out of service.

The railway between Millom and Barrow was reopened at around 11am today.
