PUPILS across south Cumbria have dressed up as their favourite characters to celebrate this year's World Book Day.

From Wednesday Addams to Lorax to Spiderman and Gruffalo, we have been inundated with the most creative costumes for this year's event.

Schools have dedicated the day to promote books and reading.

Barrow's Cambridge Primary School students have sent their best pictures in their learning rooms dressed as characters such as Peter Rabbit by Beatrix Potter and Violet Beauregarde, based on the character from Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.

Barrow Island Primary School pupils have also picked their best outfits to commemorate the annual event.

The primary school said: "Really successful and enjoyable World Book Day – great effort from all."

Children from Stramongate School in Kendal have celebrated the event around the town by visiting the library and book shops dressed as their favourite characters.

The primary school said: "World Book Day celebrations have been amazing this year at Stramongate.

"We've spent the week exploring different books and authors both fiction and non-fiction. We've visited the library, visited book shops to spend our world book day tokens and the standard of work we have produced over the week has just been exceptional.

Seven-year old Ryder picked the Lorax by Dr. Seuss as his costume for this year's World Book Day celebrations.

A very creative costume by the eight-year-old Errin dressed as the trending character Wednesday Adams with her side partner Thing.
