AN elated couple in their 60s have fulfilled their 15-year dream of opening their very own stall in Barrow Market.

L & K Trading Ltd is the latest stall to join the array of traders in the ever-growing market hall.

The stall is run by adult education tutor Linda Nussbaum-Richman, who decided to make the most of a career-break and open a new stall.

The stall, located at number 47 and 48, sells an eclectic mix of seasonal retro, vintage and modern items, handcrafts and ‘big boys’ toys.

The stall boasts an selection of items from the 1960s and 1970s as well as handcrafted crochet and knitting goods made by Linda herself.

She said: “Me and my husband are in our 60s now and we felt like this was the right time to open our own stall.

“I thought there is no way I was going to get our son to wear all the shoes and dresses I had collected over the years so I thought how can I do something with them.

“I found myself at a loose end work wise and thought we have always wanted to do a proper market stall. We live in Barrow and decided to set one up here.

“I describe the style as an eclectic mix of all things, retro vintage and also modern. My husband deals with the boys’ toys side of things like engineering and models.

“I have collected all sorts of things from my business trips overseas, mainly Caribbean, Africa & the Middle East.”

Linda also hopes to eventually expand into food in the near future, selling ‘Made in Barrow’ jams and jellies, the fruit of which has been picked in the local area.

Linda, who currently works as an adult education tutor at the BDDA and Workers Educational Association in Barrow, will be running the stall with her husband as well as a helping hand from her son.

The mum said she had received a warm welcome since joining the market’s group of traders.

She said: “It’s so lovely to be in the market and see people of all ages. We’ve been talking about setting up our own stall for the last 15 years and decided this was the right time.

“Stallholders have given me lots of advice and it’s lovely to have customers come in and look at the items.”
