Barrow’s scooter club have rallied together to raise money for two local charities close to their hearts.

Following Barrow Ready Steady Go Scooter Club’s annual general meeting, the members made a decision to donate to two different charities.

Members have decided to donate money to both St Marys and the McMillan trust, as they have lost good club members and friends of the club over the last few years, who benefitted from the resources these charities provide.

The money will be donated in memory of Dave and Geoff.

Club member Dave, was into scooters from a young age, he was a top mechanic who was always willing to help others.

The club now have a trophy in his memory, called the “Best engineering award of the year”.

The donation was also inspired by Geoff, who was brother in law to one of the original club member in 1979, Geoff was always at club events and supported a lot of their charity events over a number of years

Barrow's Scooter Club had their own rally last year, which was supported by the Lambretta club of Great Britain, the club said it was a huge achievement to be associated with such a large, world renown organisation.

As well as a rally, the club also held a soul night on New Year’s Eve and have hosted many other music events throughout the year, which has allowed them to raise the money for donation.

Barrow Ready Steady Go Scooter Club has donated to St Mary's Hospice before, in November 2018, the club raised an amazing £1,000 for the charity by hosting a soul night and rally.

The club’s total contribution to St Mary’s Hospice throughout 2018 was a fantastic £1,615.50.

Founded in 1979, the club is currently 48 members strong, they don’t have any head member as such and meet every fortnight.

The club hold local runs around the Lake District every Sunday and regularly take part in national scooter rallies around the country and Europe every year.
