BARROW and Furness MP Simon Fell has praised a new scheme enabling cheaper access to HRT.
From April 1, people prescribed HRT, the main treatment for menopause symptoms, will have access to a new scheme which enables access to a year's worth of HRT prescription items, such as patches, tablets and topical preparations, for the cost of two single prescription charges (£18.70).
People prescribed HRT will be able to apply online for a digital or paper version of the certificate. Once you have applied for and been granted your paper or digital HRT PPC, from April 1, 2023, it can be used immediately.
Anyone can apply for a HRT PPC to reduce the cost of their HRT regardless of the purpose for which it is prescribed.
The certificate will be valid for 12 months. It can be used against a list of HRT prescription items with no limit on the number of items it can be used for, allowing HRT to become more accessible for those who need it, improving the day to day lives of many women experiencing the menopause.
Commenting, Simon Fell MP said: “This is an excellent step towards enhancing the quality of health care for women and girls and will have a major impact on such a large number of women across the country. Menopause can have such a detrimental impact on physical and mental health, so I am very pleased this valuable treatment is being made more widely accessible. It’s great to see!”
