LOVERS of Thai food can pick up ready meals in shops cooked by a Barrow woman whose business is booming.

May Torkington is the owner and head chef of Mays Thai Treats in Barrow.

Mays Thai Treats began as a food takeaway service six years ago in May’s own kitchen on Walney Island. She now has her own food place at 15 Anchor Road in Barrow.

May has been cooking authentic Thai food for over 16 years.

The secret to her food is always using the freshest and best ingredients to get an original and authentic taste, she said.

In 2020 May decided to add ready meals to her Thai cuisine business which now supplies high-quality food across Barrow, Askam, Ulverston and Millom.

You can pick them up at Nisa Local Oxford Street, Yarlside Stores, Ireleth Village Store, The Local Ulverston & NISA Local Million , Also in Mays Thai Treats on Anchor Road Barrow island

May said: “They are all my own recipes from my mum in Thailand. I love cooking for other people. It makes me happy."

May’s ready meals are incredibly popular and regularly sell out.

In January May introduced sushi to the menu, which is available packaged and ready to eat in-store.

Mays Thai Treats does starters, including Thai style spring rolls, spare ribs, Thai style chicken satay and soups.

May’s takeaway service makes fried rice dishes loaded with Thai flavour as well as a selection of noodle dishes available with chicken, pork, beef or prawn. She also does a Special Menu, “full of surprises.”

There are lots of healthy and appetizing spicy and non-spicy vegetarian dishes to choose from, as well as carefully selected, set dinners that come with a range of tasty treats and offer great value as each one incorporates a discount.

May said her best seller is the chicken Thai panang curry or the chicken Thai red curry.
