Media and film students from Barrow Sixth Form College experienced the creativity and culture of the capital on a three-day trip to London.

The 22 A Level and CTEC students had an insight into the world of media film and production when they toured the world-famous Warner Brothers Studios to see sets from the Harry Potter films.

They also visited Wolff Olins ad agency, which works with global successful companies including Google, GSK, Uber and Apple records, as well as the Museum of Brands and Tate Modern art gallery.

Sixthformer Sadie Jacques, who studies Media, D&T and Applied Science at the Rating Lane campus, said the trip was ‘jam-packed full’ of different experiences.

“I got to see different places and famous buildings as well as seeing how films are made and actual sets,” she said. “Going on the London trip helped me to gain more confidence and independence. Chris and Liz, the teachers, looked after us brilliantly and helped us gain the most out of it.”

The trip was not all course-focused as the students enjoyed a visit to the iconic Camden markets to take in the vibrant London street life as well as sampling art, fashion, music and food.

They also had free time to shop in London where they browsed the Disney Store, Lego Store, M&M store and much more.

Chris Barnes, the college’s specialist media and film studies tutor, said it was great to be off adventuring with the young people at college.

“The trip was all about celebrating creativity, from the professional creatives in the advertising agency to the pure creativity of the art in Tate Modern. But more than anything to witness the huge creative tsunami of the Harry Potter films at Warner Brothers Studios with ten years’ worth of sets, props, costumes and FX," he said.

“It has been a few years since we’ve been able to go on trips so, just being together in a group in London, one of the great cities of the world, was amazing. We sang, we laughed, we had a blast."
