A LOVESTRUCK couple have tied the knot with their nearest and dearest after months of delays.

Khdijah, a 34-year-old photographer, first met her husband David, a 37-year-old videographer, online before meeting in person in January 2020.

Khdijah said: "What I liked about David is he is kind, patient and understanding.

"What David says he likes about me is my caring and honest nature. As photographers we both look at life kind of similarly."

The lovestruck pair got engaged last year at Blea Turn in the Lake District.

The couple tied the knot at the Merewood Country House Hotel in Windermere on November 26 in front of 17 guests.

They then enjoyed a reception at the Netherfield Cricket Club in Kendal alongside 73 of their loved ones.

Unfortunately the Ukrainian war affected the pair's plan to marry, delaying their big day by several months.

Khdijah said: "Covid didn’t affect at all but the Ukrainian war did, my fiancee's visa took seven months to process instead of one month.

"We were supposed to get married in August but we had to cancel it, we were scared to go through another cancellation but finally the visa came up!

"After such a long time waiting to get married and the difficult process to get here the day wasn't just exciting but brought incredible relief too.

"English weddings are new to me so I wasn't sure what to expect but the staff at the Merewood made me feel incredibly comfortable and were with me step by step.

"I remember standing at the door to the ceremony room and when the door opened I felt like i was walking in to a new chapter in my life.

"When I saw David when walking down the aisle suddenly everything felt real, it was no longer a dream. After everything we had been through, finally we are here. It was a small wedding so it felt more personal.

"The setting of the Merewood was perfect, it was such a wonderful English experience,

"We had our reception at Netherfield Cricket Club where we invited more of our friends. My mother in law and myself created and designed all the decorations for the venue for the night and we were so proud with how it looked.

"We were very nervous for our first dance, we’re quite shy people so having this attention felt strange for us, but once we locked hands and eyes we were in our own world.

"David wrote a speech but he was so nervous when he was up there he couldn’t read what he wrote, so instead he spoke from the heart which made me tear up.

"His stepfather Neil wrote a speech on behalf of my late father who died earlier in the year, it was a surprise to me, he had such kind words and made me feel even more welcome in to the family.

"Everyone always says your wedding is the best day ever, and its true."
