A BAA-RILLIANT community project has been hailed a success after raising more than a thousand pounds for a life-saving charity.

What the Flock? is a new community project created by ArtWorks and supported by Barra Culture.

ArtWorks, a volunteer led community art and mental well-being group, created the What the flock? idea.

The project is made up of a team of volunteers who work to raise funds and awareness for mental health and well-being charities using art-based projects.

Last year the different arts and crafts groups across South Cumbria associated with What the Flock? were busy working on sheep made out of pompoms.

A number of charities were given a wire sheep frame and people from all over the UK created Pom Poms to dress the sheep.

After an event in May 2022, when all the sheep came together, people who couldn’t visit the event wanted to see them. The idea for a calendar started.

The What the Flock? 2023 Calendar, made by ArtWorks - Art4All in partnership with local charities, was launched.

The charities who made sheep were asked where in Furness they would like their sheep to visit.

Community Payback, Barrow, got on board and offered support driving sheep around and taking most of the photos.

YouthAbility, StotchAbility, Furness Creatives, Moorfield Learning Centre, Barrow Deaf Club, Barrow and Millom Social Prescribing and DropZone all planned what location they wanted to use.

ArtWorks designed the calendar and once printed sold them at local events and via their Facebook page.

Gillian Leviston, one of the ArtWorks volunteers, selected Duddon Inshore Rescue as the recipient for all monies raised.

They are a fabulous local, small charity, saving lives and raising awareness of water safety, the group said.

The project finished in mid-January and £1,470 was raised and presented to them on Monday January 16.
