IT is not known if Mariah Carey has visited Barrow, but the royalties from her hit song All I Want For Christmas Is You could buy hundreds of homes here.
With 10.8 million streams recorded by the Official Charts Company, All I Want For Christmas Is You overtook Taylor Swift's Anti-Hero this week.
Despite the song being written in 15 minutes and recorded nearly 30 years ago, it has earned over £48 million in royalties up to 2016 according to figures from The Economist.
Since then it has made an estimated £2 million a year, meaning a total of £61 million up to and including this year.
With the average house price in Barrow being £149,000 in October according to the Land Registry, that means the 'Queen of Christmas' could buy 405 homes in Barrow.
According to Ministry of Housing data, in 2020 Barrow had 33,516 properties.
Therefore All I Want For Christmas could buy just over 1.2 per cent of Barrow.
