THE HAIRY Bikers have spoken about their ‘absolutely joyous’ return to TV together.

Barrow-born chef Dave Myers appeared on BBC’s Saturday Kitchen last weekend alongside co-star Si King, and said while it had been a "rough year" amid his cancer diagnosis, it was "lovely to be back" on TV.

Earlier this year, Dave confirmed he had been diagnosed with cancer and that he was undergoing chemotherapy.

He announced to fans in May that he would be taking time off work, with Si attending a number of festivals on his own.

Saturday Kitchen marked Dave’s first appearance on TV since his diagnosis, with Si describing the occasion as ‘joyous, absolutely joyous’ on the Hairy Bikers - Agony Uncles podcast.

Dave said: “It was my first outing you know. I’m feeling better, my hair is coming back and to be there with Kingy was truly special.”

Dave said that after making ‘a little speech’ on the show he had the urge to kiss his best pal Si.

He said: “I just had to kiss him - I wasn’t being theatrical or anything that’s not me - but it was just like, we’re back, it’s great!”

The move took Si by surprise. He said: “It took me by surprise because for the 30 years we’ve known each other he constantly goes ‘get off us!’”

During Saturday Kitchen Dave said that at times he didn’t think he would be around for Christmas.

Speaking on the BBC show, Dave said: "It's lovely to be back. It's been a rough year, I can't pretend otherwise.

"There are some times when I didn't think I'd be here for Christmas but I have had so much help and I have to give a shout-out to the doctors and nurses in Birmingham that put me back together and the rehabilitation team who got me walking again.”
