A SCHOOL has confirmed two cases of scarlet fever.
Ulverston Victoria High School sent a communication to parents and carers, seen by The Mail, confirming that there are two confirmed cases of the bacterial infection within the school.
The letter states: "I am writing to let you know that we have two confirmed cases of scarlet fever currently in our school."
It also states that the school has sought the advice of the local authority and health organisations.
Scarlet fever is a bacterial illness that mainly affects children under 10 but people of any age can get it.
Initial symptoms include a sore throat, headache, high temperature, flushed cheeks and a swollen tongue. It is followed by a distinctive pink/red rash a day or two later.
Those with symptoms should contact their GP or the NHS 111 service as soon as possible.
