CAR lovers have rallied together at Lakeland Motor Museum for a classic convoy across Cumbria.

The Lakeland Motor Museum played host to a collection of car lovers as the starting point for a spectacular classic convoy across Cumbria and North Yorkshire.

Drivers gathered at the museum in Backbarrow for Practical Classics Magazine’s annual winter road trip.

Around 40 vehicles and their owners made their way to the popular attraction in a variety of classic cars including a Sunbeam Tiger, a Triumph Spitfire, a Citroen 2CV and a Hillman Imp.

The Lakeland Motor Museum hosts the start of Practical Classics Magazine's winter road trip From the museum, the convoy travelled across Cumbria towards the spectacular Ribblehead Viaduct, Hawes, Grassington, Pateley Bridge and Harrogate.

Danny Hopkins, editor of Practical Classics Magazine, said: “It was a lovely piece of joined up thinking between us, the Lakeland Motor Museum and The Lakeside Hotel to get a great collection of classic cars out onto the roads. It’s a good time of year to be out on the Lake District roads because it’s quiet.

“It was a great day for everyone. It’s so good to have a place like the Lakeland Motor Museum where people can come together. We were an hour late leaving the museum because people got chatting and many just wanted to have a good look around!”

Practical Classics Magazine is Britain’s biggest selling classic car magazine and three years ago its readers voted the Lakeland Motor Museum their favourite classic destination.

Chris Lowe, curator at the museum, said: “The museum is a popular meeting point for many car clubs and classic convoys and we always make sure to give them a very warm welcome.

“It was great to see a wide selection of classic vehicles in the car park and we were delighted to help Practical Classics Magazine’s annual winter road trip get off to a great start.”

Pictures of many of the vehicles on the Cumbria/North Yorkshire convoy will appear in the March edition of Practical Classics Magazine which goes on sale in late January. The Lakeland Motor Museum will also feature in the February edition of the magazine.

The Lakeland Motor Museum is the home of a unique collection of 30,000 exhibits, including more than 150 classic cars and motorbikes. There’s also the popular riverside Café Ambio on site – where enthusiasts can take a break from their vehicles and enjoy a refreshing meal.
