HAIRY Biker Dave Myers enjoyed a treat from a Barrow bakery after a visit from a friend.

As part of the Hairy Bikers – Agony Uncles podcast, Dave and his TV co-star and long-time best friend Si King took a trip down memory lane to talk about what food takes them back to their childhood.

And for Dave, it was a recent reunion with Green’s pies and a Knorr gravy pot that made him feel all nostalgic.

Green’s Bakery can be found in Jarrow Street in Barrow – the hometown of the Hairy Biker.

The pie shop once featured in the Hairy Biker’s ‘The Ultimate Pie Bible’, gaining a reputation as the best pie shop in the country.

Dave said: “A friend came down from Barrow the other week with six Green’s meat and potato pies. The other night Lil was working, generally I do cook for both of us so she said don’t bother for me, and I sat there and had two pies. Nearly as good as pukka pies – it’s the nostalgia of it as well.

“But I had it with a Knorr gravy pot, it was so, so nice. The gravy pots are lovely and then just had it with these pies.

“But it took me right back to my childhood, it hasn’t changed.”

During the episode one fan wrote in to wish Dave well in his ongoing battle against cancer, stating that the Hairy Biker was inspiring him ‘to keep laughing’ despite his own health struggles.

Hairy Biker fan Tony said: “I find uncle Dave an inspiration, good luck with everything.

“I have long term health issues and I find it a struggle myself, you’re inspiring me to keep laughing.”

Dave began chemotherapy to fight the disease in April this year but has chosen not to publicly disclose what type of cancer he is fighting.

He embraced the ‘Baldy Biker’ look after starting the treatment, but said his hair is now returning.
