FAMILIES will have the chance to experience the Cumbrian outdoors in the company of some of the UK's national icons with the arrival of an all-new festival taking place in Summer 2023.

Holker Hall, near Cartmel, will host the Wild Goat Festival, bringing families together into the outdoors for an action-packed weekend of running, cycling, entertainment, and the chance to meet some of sport's all-time greats.

The festival is the brainchild of athletics legend and former 1,500-metre World Champion Steve Cram, who will join Horrible Histories author Terry Deary, families who plan to take part, and other supporters at Holker to launch the event.

Cram is now a well-known BBC television presenter and athletics commentator, as well as being heavily involved in athletics coaching.

Despite retiring from athletics in 1994 after a glittering career, he remains the UK record holder over the mile and 2,000 metre distances.

From August 11 - 13, 2023, the Wild Goat Festival will deliver three days of fun for active families, with a packed programme for adults and children alike, all in the stunning setting of the historic Holker Estate.

The event will combine social runs and gravel cycle rides with a series of trail races and guided walks, all providing opportunities for participants to explore the Holker Estate and beautiful South Lakes landscape.

The main event hub will be right next to Holker Hall and Gardens, with camping, speakers and entertainment on the main stage, games, food and drink, and play areas for kids.

The festival will include a wide range of activities designed for children, including Horrible Histories-themed social runs, led by the series' creator, Terry Deary.

The main site will also host Paula's Families on Track, a family event created by former marathon world record holder Paula Radcliffe.

Families on Track gives family groups the opportunity to complete a 10K distance in a continuous relay, in a safe setting and format that allows everyone to contribute and most importantly, have fun while exercising together.

Paula will be on hand next August to oversee the event, and participate with her own family.
