READERS have shared their sadness following the announcement that a long-serving town centre shop would be closing its doors.

So Silver in the ginnel between Portland Walk and Dalton Road in Barrow will be shutting its doors after 17 years in business.

Barrow born and bred So Silver owner, Chrissy Haughin, has been at the helm of her high street store since November 2010.

In a post shared online, Chrissy announced her retirement and the subsequent closure of the shop.

She said: "After 17 years trading as So Silver the time has come to start making memories with my dear hubby. We have enjoyed the loyalty of our customers over those years, so have decided to reduce the price of everything in store. That includes our piercings.

"Please call in for some wonderful bargains.

"Thank you Barrow for supporting our little gem of a shop."

Lynn Huck said: “Such a shame, only discovered this shop last year and have purchased a few bits from there. Always loved popping in because they always had lots of gorgeous things.”

Debbie Best said: “One of the best shops – I’m  really going to miss it and Chrissie and Linda. So sad now even more going soon, there’s nothing here and nowhere to go to get anything.”

Stephen Snell said: “So sorry. You've always cheered me up with your hellos and chats across the years.”

Sharon Fallon said: “I feel sorry for the shops that are left in the town centre as they won't be getting any passing trade as people don't go into town very often.”

Susie Sinclair said: “If people bought from shops instead of Amazon then we wouldn't be seeing our shops closing one by one. Also people should stop paying by card and use cash as if it becomes a cashless society you will lose control of your money or lose it all together with no trace of it. People need to wake up before it’s all too late.”

Lorna Claire Casson said: “So sad that those businesses have to go due to the redevelopment. More independent shops gone.”
