THE Yan family is celebrating another award win.

The bistro-with-beds just outside Grasmere has been named a winner in the Good Hotel Guide Editor’s Choice 2023 Awards in the Eco-Friendly category.

It’s an award that means a great deal to The Yan’s Director of Operations Jess Manley because for the last few years, The Yan has been working hard towards becoming carbon neutral – something they estimate will happen soon.

The Yan has impressive eco credentials, with biomass and hydro schemes, EV charging and LED lighting, while produce is home-grown or locally sourced. Jess is also currently in the process of completing three projects with ECO-I north west’s small businesses Journey to Net Zero scheme.

She said: “As a hospitality business in the heart of the Lakes it is important that we are aware of our impact on the environment, being surrounded by stunning landscape, we are all too aware of how important it is to protect our precious part of the world and the wider planet.

“That is why being environmentally conscious is embedded within our DNA, we try to do everything we can to reduce our impact, without sacrificing our guest experience.”

Jess runs The Yan with her husband Will Manley, and more recently her sister Georgina King, and brother-in-law Pete King.
