A PUB has closed its doors 'with immediate effect', it has been announced.

The General Burgoyne in Urswick issued a statement online revealing that the site is now closed.

Bosses said: "The General Burgoyne is now closed with immediate effect. A statement will follow in the coming days."

John Oldfield, of Urswick, took on the reins at The General Burgoyne pub and restaurant in 2018 - despite only being 19-years-old at the time.

The youngster decided to take on the challenge because he refused to see the business “join the worryingly long list” of pubs closing down in the area.
