CROWDS of people are set to descend upon Barrow to enjoy a weekend full of traditional German food, beer and music for the town’s very own Oktoberfest.

Following the success of last year’s inaugural event, Barrow Raiders’ Oktoberfest will return to the Matt Johnson Prestige Stadium tonight.

Guests are invited to dress up in their lederhosen and enjoy some imported German beer and food for the two-day event.

Special entertainment will be provided by the UK’s leading Oomparty band and supported by the unique sounds of Broken Three Ways, The Dales and local DJs.

The event begins at 4pm tonight, with celebrations continuing at 2pm tomorrow.

The club have put up extra heated marquees and are hoping that the Furness public provide their support for something a little different for the area.

If last year is anything to go by it promises to be a fantastic event.

Tickets at £10 are recommended to be purchased from the Barrow Raiders website but there will be pay at the door options available at the Hindpool Road entrance should space should be available. Ulverston-based company, Bender UK, have sponsored the event and are expecting many of their staff to attend today.

Last year, thousands of people attended the event which saw festival-goers party the night away with drinking and dancing.

The three-day event saw Oom-pah bands, German food stalls, as well as the traditional German beer providing an excellent day for all under marquees at the stadium.

The Barrow Raiders’ first ever Oktoberfest event idea came from chairman Steve Neal who said how going to the event in Bavaria was an inspiration for this event.

He returned hoping to replicate the success in Barrow for all those that would like to go, but were unable to due to the Covid-19 restrictions in place at the time.
