READERS have had their say after TV show This Morning posted a statement on its Instagram in reaction to the backlash that its presenters Phillip Schofield and Holly Willoughby have received in recent days.

The pair were seen attending Westminster Hall where Queen Elizabeth’s lying in state took place but rumours spread that they didn’t queue up and instead gained access without the long wait endured by thousands of members of the public.

David Beckham and Susanna Reid were among crowds who queued for hours to pay their respects to the late monarch.

The statement released by This Morning says: “Hello everyone, we would like to clarify something.

“We asked Phillip and Holly to be part of a film for this Tuesday’s programme.

“They did not jump the queue, have VIP access or file past the Queen lying in state – but instead were there in a professional capacity as part of the world’s media to report on the event.”

Many readers thought that the pair should have queued along with the public.

Lorraine Benson said: “No, if my 82-year-old mother had to queue for 10 plus hours then so should they!!!! Whatever the excuses they and their bosses give... Not a big fan of Mr Beckham but all respect for him for joining the queue.”

Linda Laing said: “No. They are not news reporters or serious journalists. They queue jumped, end of. Another shining example of entitlement.”

Eric Irving said: “David Beckham a true gentleman.”

Antöny Statham said: “They didn't stand in line.”

AmanfromSilloth said: “A welcome return of the 'It was a work event' excuse. A full list of the 'VIP's' should be published, that way we would know whether these presenters were the only ones there 'working' or we are being given a rubbish excuse.”
