PRAISE has been showered on a Barrow nursing home by a relative for the 'amazing' care given to a relative.

Risedale Nursing Home on Abbey Road has been singled out for special tribute by Anne Hall, whose 96-year-old aunt Margaret Proctor is a resident of the home.

In a letter to The Mail, Anne applauded the staff at Risedale for their 'loving care' towards Margaret since she arrived at the home in a poor state of health after spending weeks in hospital after breaking her hip in a fall.

"Since arriving there they have revitalised her with stimulating events, encouraged her back to drawing as a previously proficient artist with trips to Barrow Park on sunny days,  and encouraged drawings of park benches and trees," she said.

"The love shown to her with hairdo, nails painted, exercises and quiz sessions, pictures of her at cocktail afternoons, and being a country lady, getting out into the garden on sunny days brings her to life.

"Recently I have been amazed when they took her and 14 others in wheelchairs with their own personal carers to Bowness watching the boats and swans, and having a picnic.

"I was further amazed two weeks ago to hear her and four others were taken in wheelchairs with carers on the train to Blackpool among the arcades and fun - who at 96 could ask for more?

"This week, on hearing her niece was to be celebrating an 80th birthday in Coniston, they rearranged staff rotas so she could be part of the surprise guest list.

"Not only that, they took her to a shop in Barrow to choose a new dress for the party, arranged a taxi, and her amazing carer Courtney ensured she caught up with many friends from the past, going home exhausted but full of happy memories from her previous home village.

"One hears of residents in care homes who are left abandoned and treated badly, but we as a family could not believe how their loving care have transformed her spirits, and all at the party were amazed at how well and cared for she was.

"A tribute to each and every member of staff who have cared for her over the last few years with love and they deserve to be praised."

Hannah Fell, a senior assistant practitioner at Risedale Nursing Home, said: "How lovely it is for the hardworking staff to receive such lovely comments from the family, and we thank the family for taking the time to do this."
