PUBLIC toilets had to be closed after 'soul-destroying' vandals struck at a seaside resort.

The ladies toilets on Church Hill, Grange, was targetted by vandals and had to be closed while the damage is repaired.

The floor was covered in two inches of water which is expected to take a week to dry.

The vandalism happened on September 2.

Chairman of Grange Town Council, Councillor Tricia Thomas said: "This is the second time in a fortnight this has happened.

"The drainage channels from the basins were blocked with tissue paper and the taps left running so the whole toilet block flooded.

"Tissue paper was then thrown against the walls.

"The toilets had to be closed for several days while the block was cleaned and dried out.

"Not only is this a costly and time consuming exercise but it is also an inconvenience to Grange residents and visitors to the area; not to mention the cost of the wasted water and toilet tissue.

"It is soul destroying for the staff who take great pride in keeping the toilets as clean as possible for the public to use, only to find that they have been repeatedly targeted by mindless vandals who think it’s fun to be so destructive.

"One day the culprits may need to use the public toilets themselves only to find that because of their previous actions they are no longer open.

"The thoughtless actions of a few spoil it for the majority."
