AN APPLICATION to convert staff accommodation into two additional guest suites at a Lake District hotel has been approved by the national park authority.

The submission related to Applegarth Villa in Windermere is to see staff accommodation provided off-site in the town.

A planning statement submitted as part of the application from Mr and Mrs A Mumford said Applegarth Mews, which is to be the subject of the conversion, was a single-storey, detached building that sat close to the hotel.

The statement said the project at the hotel, which is situated in College Road, would provide 'high-class visitor accommodation'.

"Applegarth Villa guests are couples only and there will only be two people accommodating each suite, no children or groups are allowed," it said.

"There is an emphasis on privacy and seclusion between each of the proposed suites, and the design of the suites is to prevent any noise between each suite, both internally and externally."
