A BOWLING group is on the hunt for new members to help ‘preserve and develop the club’.

Ulverston Cons Bowling Club has gone from strength to strength during its recovery from the Covid-19 pandemic.

The playing surface was kept in good working order by Bob Hutton, Jeff Benson and Tony Eva throughout 2020 and 2021 when games were at a standstill.

2021 saw the renovation of the office and pavilion, extra sheltering facilities and had existing buildings maintained and decorated.

The improvements haven’t stopped there with the provision of a new storage facility and planned upgrades for equipment and buildings.

They are now on the lookout for new members to boost numbers and keep the club going for many years to come.

Men, women and children of any ability or experience are welcome to join the 57-strong club.

“It has been far from easy,” said Bob Hutton. “But having recovered this far, we must keep the momentum going to preserve and develop the club.”

Tony Eva, who joined the club in 2017, has already seen the club go through difficult times.

After previous management at the club stepped down due to ill health, it became a ‘really difficult time for the survival of the club’.

“After a few meetings, Jeff Benson, Robert Hutton and myself, decided to try to keep the club going,” said Tony. “Then Covid tried to wreck the few plans we had – here we go again.

“I feel the club is run well and looking good but we need people to carry on the work we have started.”

The green has gone from a ‘bad state’ to a flourishing play field.

Jeff Benson said: “It’s a credit to us all, so all we need now is people to play on it. So, children, adults, families, please come along see what you think. It’s a great game, gets you out of the house and there’s plenty of walking involved.”

The club has also been sponsored by Lindows and Just Bikes but they always welcome anyone else who would wish to sponsor them.
