READERS have reacted to the Abbey Road postal strike with support for the workers.

On Friday the postal workers were protesting their pay and conditions.

The leader of the Communication Workers Union (CWU) declared Friday's industrial action as "the biggest strike in the UK since 2009," as he said more than 115,000 postal workers were out protesting.

In Barrow, staff picketed outside the Rawlinson Street Tesco Express and across the road from the Duke of Edinburgh Hotel. Passing cars honked their horns in support of the strikes, and one woman dropped off a bag with food and drinks for the workers.

Renationalise Royal Mail said: "Full support for all our local posties. Shame on the CEO Simon Thompson for allowing it to get this far. Talking to some of the guys on the picket line I never realised some are being forced to use Barrow Food Bank. Shame on you Simon Thompson, shame on you and all the senior members of the board!"

Kelly Chivrall said: "It should also be mentioned that they are striking over conditions, not just pay. The CEOs are trying to change their working hours… something no one wants, not even most customers."

Vicki Leonard agreed, saying: "Doing the same with us rail workers. Stand up for what’s right. I support you all the way."

Sue Furness said: "Good on them, they deserve higher pay, walk through all kinds of weather. Good on them."

Lee Morton said: "Get the CEO'S to do some proper work on the shop floor instead of sitting behind their desks with feet up smoking cigars creaming off disgustingly huge salaries....this goes for all utility, transport, oil and gas companies etc."

Dave Stables replied to Lee's comment: "salaries then huge bonuses on top. Why? How have they "earned" a bonus when all they've done is cause hardship for ordinary people. Disgusting."
