A BRITAIN'S Got Talent star entertained kids with a ukulele session at holiday club sessions.

A video was put up on Facebook of Alfie Bridgens teaching kids how to play the ukulele and he sang songs with them.

These holiday sessions are being run for the first time at St Pius X school by Brown Paper Packages.

Brown Paper Packages has been running for eight years but took off during the pandemic by organising COVID-compliant events.

They then branched out into putting together kids' holiday clubs after running a trial session back in Easter.

Sarah Kenny was a manager at Furness Building Society in Dalton but is now running Brown Paper Packages full time.

Sarah said: "It was originally just a Britain's Got Talent day. Alfie was a last-minute decision for him to come and the kids loved it.

"The kids are between five and 11 years, and today we had a water fight. We had 30 water pistols and water balloons. Yesterday was superhero day, we have a different theme every day. The clubs are mainly arts and crafts-themed, and they run from 9am until 3pm.

"We are hoping to have a few more days for the November half-term and Christmas."

The sessions generally take 20-30 kids and some of these also include some free spaces. Sarah has offered a few free places to children from low-income families.

"As a parent, there seems to be a lot of funding for free holiday club spaces for low-income families from the government," she said.

"But I know that it is not black and white that if you are both working you can put children in holiday camps. The groups give children from these families to mix with the other children.

"It is just about giving equal opportunities, we have added six free children to future sessions."

She said it was important that kids can go to holiday camps to keep them entertained if both parents are working and they do not have an older sibling.

She said that Alfie Bridgens has expressed interest in doing some shows for the kids in the future.
