Football fans turned out to Barrow Town Centre to support the Lionesses.

Football flags were hung inside shop windows and draped across the window of popular pub Tailors as England took on Germany in the women’s Euros 2022 final this evening (Sunday).

This year’s squad includes Barrow’s own Georgia Stanway.

Prior to the 5pm kick-off, positive thinking Barrovian’s at The Furness Railway gave their match predictions.

Mark, who was visiting the pub with Aon, said: “I think they’ll win it 3-1!”

Meanwhile, Karen and Jeff Johnson thought that Germany wouldn’t have a chance to score.

They said: “We’re going to beat them 2-nil.”

Readers also sent in their predictions, with Tina Jackson claiming it would be a ‘close game’ ending 3-2 to England.

Some England fans chose to support the team from home.

Kath Dwyer said: “Good luck girls.”

Lori Robinson said: “Come on the Lionesses!”

Pub-goers at The Derby Inn were treated to the big game on the TV and a large projector.

Spirits were high as the game kicked off and ‘oohs' and 'aahs’ travelled through the pub as the two teams battled for control of the ball.

Disgruntled murmuring could be heard during the first half as Stanway was handed a yellow card. She had been in a race for the ball with Sara Dabritz, resulting in Stanway clipping Dabritz before she fell to the floor.

The first half of the match finished on a score of nil-nil.

Early into the second half, fans clapped as England’s goalkeeper prevented a goal for Germany and tensions grew as Lena Oberdorf was handed a yellow card for a late tackle on Stanway which saw the Barrow-born player hit the ground.

The Derby Inn erupted into cheers as England’s Ella Toone scored the first goal.

“Yes go on girls,” and “that was a good goal,” could be heard amongst the roar.

Celebrations soon turned to frustration as Germany retaliated with a goal of their own - a desperate plea of “come on England” could be heard among the sighs.

But keen not to disappoint, England's Chloe Kelly scored an adrenaline raising goal during extra time which saw the pub erupt into thunderous applause, ultimately leading the team to a 2-1 victory.
