THE Beggar's Theatre is hosting an autism-friendly film screening of Luca on Friday August 19.

The film will start at 2.30 pm with doors opening at 2 pm.

Cinema environments can be stressful for guests with autism, sensory difficulties or learning impairments.

The Mail:

Autism-friendly screening normally include the house lights being kept on throughout the film, a lower audio volume, and the cinema doors opening early so guests have time to get used to the surroundings.

Luca is a Disney film from last year that is set on the Italian Riviera, and centres on Luca Paguro, a young sea monster that can assume human form while on land.

It is based on the director Enrico Casarosa's experience of growing up in Genoa, and the animation is inspired by Studio Ghibi film-maker Hayao Miyazaka's drawings.

The film received positive reviews from critics, and became the most-viewed movie on streaming services for 2021.
