A FORMER Barrow AFC player has been dumped from Love Island after a public vote.

Jamie Allen, 27, who played for the Bluebirds on loan in 2013/4, was one of four new 'bombshells' who entered the reality TV show.

The Montserrat international has played for Halifax for three seasons and in June the club announced he had 'committed his future' to the team.

Last night after a public vote he was dumped from the show alongside 21-year-old dancer Danica Taylor.

The public had been voting for their favourite couple, and on Tuesday night viewers learned that Jamie and Danica, Dami Hope and Indiyah Polack, and Adam Collard and Paige Thorne, were at risk.

Speaking after his exit, Jamie said: “My journey was a lot shorter than Danica’s obviously but I went in there trying to find a genuine connection and I feel like I have done that.”

The Preston-born forward played 17 times for Barrow.

He is not the only Love Island contestant with a Furness connection to appear on the show this year.

Rugby player Jacques O'Neill decided to pull out of the competition, calling it 'the worst decision of my life'.

Speaking about her romance with Jamie, Danica said: "I’m walking out of here with somebody who I genuinely think I’ve got quite a good connection with.

"I'm so proud of myself.

"I remember the first night he came in and we were just talking. I didn’t know anything about him, I didn’t know where he lived, his family, or his career but we’d spoken all night.

"I felt his energy and that he really liked me and wanted to get to know me for me – that is a feeling that I hadn’t felt with any of the other guys."
