A MUSICIAN from Barrow has received a grant from Help Musicians to develop her musical.
Artist Maz O'Connor, who is now based in London, got funding for her project 'The Wife of Michael Cleary.'
The musical combines Irish traditional music with the tropes of a stage production.
It is based on the true story of Bridget Cleary who Maz describes as a 'bold and independent woman' from late 19th century Tipperary, Ireland.
Bridget is accused of being a changeling which turns her conservative Christian community against her. The musical depicts the events that happen from there.
Maz said: "I think when people think of Irish folk music they think of Riverdance, but this will be darker.
"The money will definitely help, musical theatre is really expensive to develop."
Help Musicians is a UK charity that gives musicians funding at crucial points in their careers.
