AN animal-lover has revealed her horror after reportedly seeing two dogs being ‘smacked’ and ‘kicked’ by their owner while out on a walk.

A member of the public, who asked to remain anonymous, has raised concern after she saw a dog-owner act aggressively towards his two pets in Ainslie Street, Barrow.

The mum said she ‘could not believe’ a person could act ‘so cruel’ towards their own dogs.

She said: “I was sat in my living room and I could hear someone shouting at someone. I didn’t think much of it, I was concerned because it sounded very aggressive. He was shouting a lot.

“I went into the garden because I was becoming concerned that he was shouting at a child. Being a mother, I got concerned. I went outside and saw a man there with an Alsatian and a Pug.

“I saw it with my own eyes – he was smacking them in the face and kicking them on the legs and just being very aggressive.

“The dogs were just minding their own business.

“I said if you keep hitting them I will call the police and he told me to get lost.”

The Good Samaritan called the police and moments later officers arrived to confront the individual.

She said: “It was so cruel what he was doing to them for absolutely no reason. I’ve never seen anything like it.

“Their tails weren’t wagging and their noses were down – I could just tell they weren’t happy.

“Seeing him treat animals like that made me feel angry – I was actually shaking from anger.

“I thought if I don’t call the police, this is just going to carry on.

"No-one should be allowed to own an animal that’s going to treat it in that way."
