RESIDENTS of Barrow have come out supporting and defending their town centre after a video calling it 'grim' has gone viral.

Gareth Morgan, whose username is Bald Foodie Guy, usually creates food review videos trying popular food from takeaways and restaurants in the area to branded items on his channel, which has 36,600 subscribers.

But this time, he posted a video of his trip out to Heron food, a retailer supermarket based on Portland walk-in Barrow, and also documented his journey into the town.

The video ‘Barrow-in-Furness Grim Shopping Trip With A Darker Side’ sees the food lover walking down Portland Walk, past the boarded-up shops on his way to grab food.

Residents have taken to social media to say they are 'fed up' of the negativity.

Andrea Williams said: "So sick of hearing all this negativity. Let's focus on building up. The council cannot stop large retailers from leaving the town. We have loads of s.all independent traders in Barrow. That is the future..support them."

Julie Barrow said: "Actually, I was in Barrow town centre on Monday afternoon and it was quite busy. Some of the big shops may have gone but the independent shops are still offering fantastic personal service."

Becki Fishwick said: "Could I ask we start focusing on the positives, perhaps some weekly business of the week recognitions, we have such a great variety of cafes, bars, restaurants and small independent shops let’s celebrate those who ARE open and bringing the best they can to our town to make it great."

Charlie Walduck said: "Instead of putting down the town why doesn't he look at all the great things the town has to offer. As a Barrovian I hate it when people go on about barrow being a dump... it's not... it's a great town but like many others needs to reinvent itself."
