DETAILS have been announced for a mental health festival which will take place next month.

On Saturday, July 9, BeWell Fest, a community Health Festival, will return to Barrow.

On the Bay Health Festival Weekend, Barrow has its own special 'BeWell' day planned at Barrow Raiders' Matt Johnson Prestige Stadium.

BeWell Fest is supported by a team of Cumbria County Council, Bay Health NHS and local charities which have been touring the district with monthly outdoor pop-up wellbeing information events to keep in touch with people during Covid restrictions.

One of the festival co-ordinators Michael Cassels, from Mind in Furness, said: "Months of preparation have gone into this event, which is very much a team effort.

"Our plans have been influenced by feedback from members of the public who visited our local outdoor events.

"I have been impressed by the NHS and County Council staff who have gone above and beyond their roles to bring us together, and Barrow Raiders deserve a special thanks for hosting the event."

More than 40 organisations will take over Raiders' stadium, organised into four zones.

The day will begin with a Tai Chi communal warm-up before local musicians accompany games and sports tasters in the Better Me Zone.

The Well Mind Zone is a community corner for advice charities, which will have a local artist helping people explore the 'five ways to wellbeing'.

Fruit based snacks and tips on making healthy eating fun will be in the Food for Thought zone.

While trained listeners will be there to welcome people to the quieter Soul to Soul Zone which has Yoga and bereavement workshops and the colourful 'What the Flock' arts based activities.

Mr Cassels said: "The most important people at the event will be the members of the public who join us for what is guaranteed to be a friendly, fun and inspirational event."
