A new ice cream parlour has opened - and you can also get free coffee refills.

Iss Cream, on the Ulverston canal path, is the brainchild of Alec Berry, who also runs a tree surgery company.

The new venture is targeted towards people walking on the canal but has also attracted customers from further away.

"It's a popular walking route and I thought that it needed something," said Mr Berry.

The business has opened on Friday, Saturday and Sunday for the last six weeks.

Iss Cream uses high-quality English Lakes Ice Cream.

He said: "Everybody has been really happy and supportive. It took a while for people to come down but it was better to start slowly.

"Now people are coming in from as far as Walney. We are getting a lot of questions about weekdays. I am hoping that as our name grows that the focus will be on the tea and coffee."

This would mean that Iss Cream would operate as a cafe as well as an ice cream venue beyond the summer months.

Because the parlour owns the land the business uses compostable cups that it can then compost on-site.

It currently employs two staff at once but is hoping to grow.

The business will also offer free coffee refills in an 'American-style system for returning hikers.'

This is his second business as he also owns tree surgery company Viking Forest.
